Create real, light-up Chinese lanterns with artists and teachers from the China Institute! Participants will craft and design a real lantern with Chinese characters, phrases, colorful materials and decorations to take home. Instructors will teach calligraphic techniques and custom phrases to help participants personalize their creations! Each lantern comes with a battery-powered light to illuminate the creativity!

Chinese Five Colored Bracelets are a tradition dating back to 420A.D. Each string used is a different color to represent the five elements; water, fire, earth, wood, gold. Chinese people wear these bracelets as an amulet to bring good health and fortune. In this workshop, you’ll be able to create and wear your own good health and fortune!

“Lucky-Knot” Tying

The Chinese Lucky Knot was originally developed in the Tang and Song Dynasty (960-1229A.D) as a folk handicraft. It then developed into an elegant decoration meaning ‘good luck’ during the Ming Dynasty. A single string tied into an intricate design takes serious precision, and a good teacher! In this workshop, you will learn to tie your own good luck!
